A thick towel that never dries becomes sour. In Douala and Kribi, hang towels on a bar with air around them, not bunched on a hook. Mid-weight cotton is often more useful than hotel-weight piles that stay wet until evening.
How many
Two bath towels per person plus a guest set is a working minimum. Hand towels by the basin stop the bath towel doing every job. Wash in a hot enough cycle and avoid fabric softener if you want them to keep drinking water.
